Who we are

Wavenet (Pty) Ltd (registration 2025/310914/07), trading as GoVaya, runs GoVaya, an app that connects people who need lifts or deliveries with drivers who are already travelling. We are the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Our Information Officer is [name of Information Officer]. Contact them at info@govaya.co.za.

What we collect

Account details: your name, email address, mobile number, home town, country and how you use GoVaya (passenger, driver, parent or transporter).

Safety details: your emergency contact’s name and number.

Drivers: your vehicle’s make, colour, seats and number plate, and photos of your driver’s licence and licence disc.

Trips: the posts you make, offers, bookings, messages, trip updates, ratings and reviews, and reports you file.

Location: while a trip is booked or under way, the driver’s phone shares its current position with the passenger. We keep only the latest position and delete it when the trip ends. If you press SOS, your position is added to the message you send.

Delivery recipients: the name and number of the person collecting or receiving a delivery, if you give them.

Children on school runs: if you are a parent, the name, grade, school and a pickup note for each child you add.

Saved routes: the places you ask to be alerted about.

Device: a notification token so we can send you alerts, if you allow notifications.

Why we use it

To run the service: show your posts, let people make and accept offers, and let the two people on a booked trip contact each other.

To keep people safe: check driver documents, verify identities, handle reports, and suspend accounts that break the rules.

To send you notifications about offers, bookings, messages and trip updates.

To meet legal obligations, and to protect our rights if there is a dispute.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who can see it

Other members see your name, verification badge, rating, reviews, home town and, for drivers, the make and colour of your vehicle.

Your mobile number and number plate are only shown to the person you have a booked trip with.

Driver document photos are only seen by GoVaya staff who review them.

Children’s details are only seen by their parent, and by the driver the parent books while that school run is booked.

Our service providers store and process data for us: Supabase (database, sign-in and storage) and Expo (push notifications). They may store data outside South Africa, in countries with adequate data protection or under agreements that protect it as POPIA requires.

We share information with the police or other authorities only when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s life or safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your account details while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, offers, trips, messages, saved routes, children’s details and document photos are deleted.

Reports about safety may be kept for as long as needed to protect other members, and records may be kept for longer where the law requires it.

Your rights

You can see and correct your details in your profile at any time.

You can delete your account in Profile > Account and privacy.

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, object to how we use it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing info@govaya.co.za.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

Children

You must be 18 or older to create a GoVaya account. Parents can book school lifts for their children; the parent holds the account and is responsible for the booking.

By adding a child’s details, you confirm you are their parent or legal guardian and consent to GoVaya using those details to arrange their school transport, as POPIA requires. You can change or remove them at any time in Profile > Your children.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
